Australian scientist who was the director of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions from 1949 until 1966.
He taught physics and boxing at Melbourne High School while attending the University of Melbourne where he graduated in 1941.
He was a senior research officer on ANARE in Antarctica for many summers.
His wife, Nel, was the first Australian woman to visit Antarctica.
