Amy Laura Bondurant (born 20 April 1951) was the US ambassador to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development from December 5, 1997 until 2001. Bondurant was the first female to hold this position. She was also the first female to sit on the board of Rolls-Royce.
Bondurant was born in Union City, Tennessee, but grew up in Hickman, Kentucky. Her father was Judge John C. Bondurant. She received a BA in 1973 from the University of Kentucky in telecommunications. In 1978 she received her Juris Doctor from Washington College of Law of the American University.
She began her career as a Legislative Assistant for Senator Wendell Ford. She was a partner and board member of the law firm Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand. She was the first female member of the firm’s board of directors and executive committee. In 1993 then-Secretary of Transportation Federico Pena appointed Bondurant to be the chairwoman of the Commercial Space Transportation Advisory Committee, where she remained until 1997.
