Trombone player most well known as a member of the band Freak Power alongside renowned DJ Norman Cook, otherwise known as Fatboy Slim. He has since grown popular as a member of the swing trio Kitten & The Hip which made it’s screen debut auditioning for the X Factor in 2014.
He began his career in Scotland in 1977 as a member of the regimental band of the 1st battalion of the Royal Scots. Then, in 1983, he left the army and went to study at the National Centre for Orchestral Studies.
He has done session musician recording and arranging for bands like Fairground Attraction and The Rolling Stones.
His wife, Scarlett Quinn, is the lead singer of Kitten & The Hip and went on to compete on the X Factor in place of the whole band.
He has shared the stage as the choice trombonist for George Russell, Carla Bley, and Django Bates.
Ashley Slater (born 1961) is a British trombone player and best known for his narration on the television series Boo! as well as his work with Norman Cook (a.k.a. Fatboy Slim) in the band Freak Power.
