Fashion-oriented YouTube sensation and entrepreneur who first became known for her makeup tutorials. She is also notable for co-founding the monthly beauty product subscription service known as ipsy as well as her own cosmetic line called em by Michelle Phan.

She attended Ringling College of Art and Design and Massachusetts College of Art and Design, but dropped out of both.

She was hired by Lancôme as their official video make-up artist after she had used Lancôme products in her YouTube videos. She has over 8 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.

She was raised by a single mother. Her sister-in-law is fellow YouTube sensation Promise Tamang Phan. She’s been in a relationship with Dominique Capraro since 2010.

Phan’s representatives stated that she had received permission from Ultra to use the music, and Phan filed a countersuit against Ultra Records on September 18, 2014, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California. In August 2015, both suit and countersuit were dropped when both parties agreed to settle out of court. The terms of the agreement were not made public.

In May 2014, Phan announced her partnership with Endemol Beyond USA to build a talent network to feature people from YouTube and create content for millennials.
