Schreiber was born in a hippie commune in Ymir, British Columbia, before moving to the unincorporated rural community of Winlaw, British Columbia, when he was six months old. His American father, Tell Carroll Schreiber, was an actor, as is his half-brother Liev Schreiber, son of their father’s first wife, who had divorced Tell Carroll five years before Pablo was born. Pablo’s mother, Lorraine Reaveley, is a Canadian body-based psychotherapist. His father, having a strong interest in literature, named Pablo after Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. His parents separated when he was 12 and Schreiber moved to Seattle, Washington, with his father. After high school, Schreiber enrolled at the University of San Francisco, where he hoped to win a spot on its basketball team.
