Roscoe Dash Biography

Hip-hop artist whose debut EP J.U.I.C.E. became a Top 20 hit in 2011. He was featured on Big Sean’s single “Marvin & Chardonnay, which went Gold as well as Waka Flocka Flame‘s hit “No Hands,” which went 3x Platinum and became Club Banger of the Year at the 2011 BET Awards.

He started composing lyrics at the age of 12. He and his brother formed a rap group called Black Boiz aka B.O.B in high school.

He originally went under the stage names ATL and Shadowfade, before choosing Roscoe Dash after googling comic book hero names.

He was born Jeffery Johnson Jr. the eldest of five siblings. He has a daughter named Jayla.

In 2012, he was featured on the cover of XXL magazine for their annual Top 10 Freshman list along with fellow rappers Iggy Azalea, Future and Machine Gun Kelly.

Jeffery Lee Johnson Jr., (born April 2, 1990) better known by his stage names Roscoe Dash and Roscoe Dash 2.0, is an American hip hop rapper, singer and record producer. He is best known for his debut single “All the Way Turnt Up”, which reached number 46 on the Billboard Hot 100. He is also known for featuring on “No Hands” by Waka Flocka Flame the same year, and “Marvin & Chardonnay” by Big Sean in 2011, both reaching 13 and 32 respectively on the Billboard Charts. Roscoe also has numerous accolades as a songwriter, working with some of the industry’s top talent.

According to Porter, this was just a mistake. He then met local entrepreneur LA da Boomman in 2009, who then signed him to his production company, Making Moves Inc. (MMI). Dash then later agreed deals with both Music Line Group, after Boomman introduced Dash to the A&R representative Anthony Tate, and the Interscope Records distributed Zone 4 after Tate and Dash spoke with music producer Polow da Don, the label’s founder.

In 2011, Dash released his first EP J.U.I.C.E.. Dash also appeared on Big Sean’s hit single “Marvin & Chardonnay”; which the song went on to be certified Gold. In 2012, Dash was featured on the cover of XXL magazine, as part of their annual “Top 10 Freshmen list”, along with these fellow rappers; including Iggy Azalea, Danny Brown, Kid Ink, Future, Hopsin, Macklemore, French Montana, Don Trip and Machine Gun Kelly.

Shortly after, Dash re-recorded “All the Way Turnt Up” this time featuring fellow Atlanta rapper Soulja Boy Tell ‘Em. The song turned into a radio hit, and Dash signed with Interscope Records the following year. Dash then started recording his debut album, Ready Set Go!, but it was leaked and shipped before the official release date. The following year Dash was featured on the chart topping single “No Hands” by fellow Atlanta rapper Waka Flocka Flame and Washington D.C. rapper Wale, the song itself went 3× Platinum, and earned all three rappers the “Club Banger of the Year” at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards and a Nomination in 2011 at the ASCAP Music Awards.

On September 20, 2012, Dash was confronted by G.O.O.D. Music, Wale, Miguel, and later Meek Mill via Twitter, due to going uncredited for G.O.O.D. Music’s Cruel Summer album and Wale’s chart topping song “Lotus Flower Bomb”. Wale responded via Twitter. Dash confronted Miguel, after statements made by him about all the confusion. Then later a fellow MMG artist Meek Mill, would poke fun at Dash and Dash would begin confronting him about it.

On August 29, 2014 Dash released his mixtape entitled The Appetizer. In June 2015, Dash released the track called “Catch A Body”, which is currently off of his upcoming album Dash Effect 2, under new booking management and is seeking a major comeback after his last few years of silence. In March 2016, Dash released a new mixtape titled “Glitch”.

After Travis Porter heard a song Roscoe had recorded called “All the Way Turnt Up”, the group automatically wanted to be a part of it. Since Travis Porter was already an established local group, he handed the song over to them and was featured on the track. It was featured on Porter’s next mixtape, I’m a Differenter 2. The hit became very popular, but most people labeled the song as being Porter’s. The song was accredited as Porter featuring YT and ATL. This conflict caused problems between Dash and Travis Porter.
