Four time singles champion who peaked in the world rankings at number 21 and had his best finishes in Grand Slam tournaments at Wimbledon and the US Open where he was eliminated in the fourth rounds.

He represented the United States early in his career at the 2004 Summer Olympics making it to the semi-finals but failing to earn a bronze medal.

He was noted for his strong serve and volleys and recorded a serve of 148 mph during a 2010 Wimbledon match, a record for the time.

He was born in Newport Beach, California.

He secured a victory against another powerful server in Andy Roddick in 2003.

Dent is the son of former ATP player and 1974 Australian Open finalist Phil Dent. Taylor’s mother, Betty Ann Grubb Stuart, who has remarried, reached the U.S. Open doubles final in 1977 with Renée Richards. Grubb was a former top-10 singles player in the United States. Dent’s half-brother, Brett Hansen-Dent, played on the ATP circuit for a short time after playing on the tennis team of the University of Southern California and reaching the singles final of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship.

His godfather is the former top ten player John Alexander, of Australia, who was Phil Dent’s doubles partner when that duo won the 1975 Australian Open doubles title.
